How can impacted teeth be orthodontically corrected? Usually the impacted tooth is exposed and orthodontically moved into the correct position. Correction of impacted teeth often involves a minor surgical procedure performed by an oral surgeon working closely with our practice. This will allow us to guide the impacted tooth into the proper position.
Sometimes upper cuspids ("eyeteeth") are impacted in the palate (top of the mouth). Dr. Stangl has developed a specialized appliance which after uncovering by the oral surgeon, greatly helps bring these teeth into the dental arch. This article was published in the Journal of the American Association of Orthodontics. To date, we have been involved in successfully bringing in over 300 palatally impacted cuspids.
