How can severe crowding be orthodontically corrected? Extra space can be created by expansion of the arches. Once space is created, braces are used to align the teeth. Correction of crowding can help prevent dental decay and periodontal disease by improving the ability to remove plaque from the teeth. We have our own lab and construct many specialized appliances for this. This procedure, while benefical and most ages is especially helpful beginning at age 7, 8 or 9 years, this early prevention allows crowded teeth to come in more straight as they erupt.
